"Bricks and mortar do not protect people," said Carson Beck, President of the Madison-Rivergate Area Chamber of Commerce. "But to have a safe haven where you know where you can see something being done to protect you, it resonates throughout the community. "First and foremost, we are very supportive of our North Precinct officers, but they can only do so much," incoming chamber president, Bill Beck, said. "The manpower of our precinct is stretched to the limit." "They cover about 34 percent of the country from North Nashville to Joelton to us. Logistically, it's a nightmare for the North Precinct." Beck, who is also an attorney in Madison, says public safety is perception, and with police patrols few and far between in the area, merchants don't feel safe and criminals see Madison as a prime target. "If we are going to keep the bad guys out, then they have to feel like they are truly at risk of getting caught. How is that possible if they don't see more police in the area?" Beck asked.
